What a SCIF is

SCIF stands for Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility. It is an accredited area in which Sensitive Compartmented Information may be processed, stored, used, or discussed. A SCIF can be a permanent building area, a room within a larger facility, or another approved configuration; accreditation, not a particular visual style, makes the space a SCIF. [1]

How ICD 705 turns risk into requirements

The accreditation process begins with the mission, threat, site, construction conditions, and proposed security boundary. Technical requirements address the full boundary: walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, penetrations, acoustic protection, access control, intrusion detection, utilities, telecommunications, construction security, and inspection. RF shielding is not automatically identical in every SCIF.
